Kabir 
1440-1518
  • Indian poet
  •  Tried to unite Hindu and Muslim religions
  • Believed in the ultimate unity of all religions
  • Leader of Sikhism, which was started by his student Nanak.
  • Raised by a Muslim weaver
  • Heavily influenced in youth by a Hindu ascetic named Ramananda
  • Combined the best beliefs of both Hinduism and Islam to make his own religion called sahaja-yoga (simple union)
  • Hinduism: ideas of transmigration and karma but not idolatry, asceticism and caste system
  • Islam: one God (tawhid) and the equality of all humans in front of God
