Violence erupted during a shutdown in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, in April 2009. It was called by a section of the separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference to protest parliamentary elections in India.

Protesters ran after policemen during a protest in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, in February 2009, demanding the release of Kashmiri separatist leaders lodged in different jails.
